Venus Williams follows in Serena’s Swirling footsteps

Sis Venus said forget about these BM who were clowning her and her sister, Serena (calling them manly, too muscular), and not on their level (*cough* Common). They are checking for White men – down with the swirl – on the loving bandwagon, whatever you want to call it.

Apparently, following in her younger sister’s footstep, Venus (37) has a millionaire boyfriend (Nicholas Hammond, 25) and they are head over heels in love. People have speculated that they are even engaged as she was spotted in the airport rocking what looked like a ring full of diamonds (the pair has been dating for a few months)

You have to love how these ladies are out here living their best lives with seemingly quality men.

But of course the detractors are out there saying that the only reason these two are with their men is because they want to secure light skinned, “good haired” babies. Like it’s so hard to love a good looking, accomplished, ambitious, loving man.

Go ahead, Venus and Serena. Brush your shoulders off and keep winning.

Learn from our African Sisters – Don’t Limit Yourself!

It’s always been a goal of mine to get to Africa, so I decided to book a ticket there and I’ve been traveling this gorgeous country for a few weeks.

Besides the landscape, animals, and the inexpensive good food, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by what I’ve seen on the relationship front in Africa.

Naturally, most of the couples I am seeing in Africa are black women and black men, and white men with white women, but when I do see interracial couples the amount of black women with white men and other non-black men, was about twice that of the other combination.

I had wrongly assumed it would be the other way around, but my eyes aren’t lying: African women seem to have grasped and embraced the concept of allowing themselves to date freely.

By the way, the women ran the gamut – from light skinned to dark skinned, from afro’d, to long curly hair, to braids, to weave, from thin and slim to va-va-voom.

One point of note is that most of the couples did seem to be in their early thirties and older with children, and as I am staying in a hotel it could be that many of these African women live elsewhere and are coming back home for the holidays.

I wonder if there has been a BWE push in their community or if their culture/mothers have taught them the importance of dating and marrying well. Do you guys know anything about this phenomenon? Share it in the comments below.

Interracial Couples in Advertising – Infiniti “Errands” Commercial

And the advertising trend keeps rolling – watching television the other day, I saw this seemingly thanksgiving themed car commercial featuring an upscale BWWM interracial couple and I thought it was pretty cute (the actor and actress are stunning and I love his voice).

Lest someone claim the commercial is making the guy out to be a dope, the premise is that he keeps purposefully forgetting things and getting the wrongs items while running errands as an excuse to drive his new Infiniti some more.

I usually do the grocery shopping in my own home and am kind of a food snob, but I have to admit there have been times I’ve sent my guy back to the store because he ends up coming back with some suspect brands. We live within walking distance to the store though, so I doubt it’s because he wants an excuse to be driving around and dealing with crazy pedestrians/drivers all day long though. lol.

Infinity – start your own legacy winer sales Event “errands” commercial.

How did you meet your lucky guy/gal? Short Film – The One

I stumbled across a beautiful (visually and conceptually) short film by Frank Glencairn and thought I’d share it with you all. If this isn’t a meet cute then I don’t know what is.

By the way, for those of you who are not familiar with the term, in film and television, a meet cute is a scene in which a future romantic couple meets for the first time. The term has existed since at least the early 1940s. This type of scene is a staple of romantic comedies.

Speaking of, do you have any cute stories of how you met your special girl or gal? If so, share it in the comments below!

Tamra & Morgan Marry on The Mindy Project – Interracial Couples on TV

Obviously, they weren’t the main characters/couple on The Mindy Project (that honor would go to Mindy and Danny), but in the season 6, episode 10 finale of The Mindy Project another interracial love story was wrapped up with a neat bow with a wedding and a baby (something Mindy didn’t get) although not in that order.

SPOILER ALERT! Xosha Roquemore’s character, nurse Tamra Webb, and Ike Barinholtz’s character, nurse Morgan Tookers, got married after their secret hook ups while Tamra wast trying to become pregnant by a sperm donor at Mindy’s Later Baby practice) resulted in a pregnancy with Morgan as the father. Despite not originally telling him he was going to be a dad, the truth came out and Morgan immediately proposed.

Sure, it’s not the ideal, most romantic plot line (this is a half hour comedy sitcom after all) – what with Morgan being an ex-convict, dope, and borderline slave to Mindy – but I have to say it was a better ending than Mindy got.

We at least know Morgan is devoted to Tamra, worships, respects her, and didn’t try to control her or demean her unlike some other people (cough, cough, Danny, cough, cough). It is really the only couple I was rooting for with the show.

Any The Mindy Project Fans out there agree or disagree? Sound off in the comments below.

What Are You Thankful For?

It’s been a ugh kind of year what with certain people in the White House, certain men in high places abusing their power, floods, fires, global warming, and the list goes on.

But in spite of all of that we’ve got a lot to be thankful for.

I know I’m thankful for having a charmed life filled with lots of love (my parents, my boo, my siblings, my friends), comforts (my car, phone, apartment, my relatively quiet neighbors, the internet, my ability to travel and see the world), and blessings (my health, freedom, talents, doing what I love, working from home, your support, etc.)

There is always a bright side and lots to be thankful for. So no matter what trials, tribulations, and set backs you have faced this year it’s important to stop and take stock of the good things in your life.

What are you thankful for this year?

Malia Obama is Down With the Swirl – and I am not mad at her!

How quickly they grow up. Remember when Malia Obama was a cute little kid standing on the stage at her dad’s inauguration way back in 2008?

Well she’s grown now (or at least you know she thinks she is).

The 19 year old, who now attends her father’s alma mater— Harvard, was recently pictured at a Harvard-Yale Game puffing on an e-cig and smooching a tall, dark haired mystery guy who was definitely on the lighter shade of the color spectrum. His Cory from Boy Meets World haircut was also a dead giveaway to his whiteness.

It’s no surprise really that she’s down with the swirl as I’m sure she has been surrounded by Caucasians her entire life and probably feels very comfortable around them.

I was happy to see comments about the photos were more about her smoking and going through the normal teenage phase than the fact that she was kissing a white guy. Progress?
