Drop the Handkerchief – Magic Words That Relay Your Interest

Back in the day women used to drop their handkerchief as a way to let men know they wanted to talk to them.

At a time when women were not allowed to talk to a stranger, handkerchiefs were literally a means of communication, as ladies would drop these precious pieces of lace on the sidewalk, whenever they wanted to attract the attention of a gentleman.
Gentlemen were of course extremely flattered

Handkerchiefs have gone the way of slips, stockings and crazy English hats in America so now women have to use their words or body language to get things done.

If you are one of those people who has trouble getting a guy to saunter up to you and start hitting on you from your telltale body signals (big smiles, lingering glance, legs crossed towards the person, touching hair, etc.) then you’ll have to depend on the plain ol’ English language.

Here are some surefire words to let a guy know you’re interested without being too forward or aggressive. If he’s smart and feeling you, he should be put at ease that all signs are a go!

These work well with strangers and acquaintances all the same

1. “I like your …fill in the blank – (tie, tattoo, shoes, new hair cut, shirt)” –

2. “You smell good! Kind of like …. fill in the blank (detergent, the beach, cinammon, old spice)” –

3. ” Has anyone ever told you that you look a lot like … I used to love him! – fill in the blank with the name of handsome celebrity, even if the only way they would resemble them is if you squint reeallly hard and are straight drunk.

Have any of these openers worked for you in the past? Do you have any magic bullet words that always seem to do the trick? List them in the comments section below.

interesting! I think I’ll just try this on people that look interesting to me in general. With guys though, if I’m giving off signs and he’s still not approaching, I just let it go. Unless it’s like a serious love at first sight situation which rarely happens.

That’s the thing. Maybe what we consider to be ‘signals’ are so subtle the guy doesn’t get it. These words/openers or variations of them should definitely give them a kick in the head. Then if he still doesn’t take the bait and extend the convo or make some effort, it might be best to keep it moving.

I came across this because a woman left a message saying “did I just drop my handkerchief here?”, I had to look that up. Some guys (like me) have a hard time understanding clues.
